Vague de fond — Force sourde
Mariclair Plante explores a contained yet active force, an internal movement that unfolds beneath the surface. The composition is structured through a subtle interplay between light, matter, and gesture, creating a space where tension remains present without becoming explicit.
A luminous upper field, composed of diffused whites and soft blue-grey tones, introduces a sense of quiet openness. Beneath it, a transitional zone carries a gentle instability, allowing the eye to move freely across the surface. The lower section anchors the work with a dense, textured mass, evoking a grounded, almost tectonic presence. This mass is not static, it is activated from within by nuanced blue inflections that bring depth and vibration.
A calligraphic gesture in India ink traverses the composition. Neither fully defined nor entirely dissolved, it acts as a trace of movement rather than a fixed form. Its presence introduces a dynamic tension, guiding the viewer through the painting without imposing a singular reading.
Subtle touches of gold leaf capture and reflect light, revealing themselves gradually and adding a discreet, luminous intensity.
Rooted in a contemporary poetic abstraction approach, this work invites a sensory experience where tension, silence, and material presence coexist. Vague de fond — Force sourde becomes a space to inhabit where what moves remains partially unseen, yet deeply felt.
