Avant la mer suggests a suspended space that exists just before a passage toward an unseen horizon. Deep blues, mineral greys, nuanced whites and earthy accents interact within a broad movement that traverses the surface and creates a sense of quiet momentum.

The material remains alive and fluid. Layered transparencies, gestural marks and textured passages generate spatial depth while allowing light to emerge gradually from within the painting. Areas of density coexist with open passages, creating a delicate balance between presence and restraint.

Rooted in Mariclair Plante's practice of contemporary poetic abstraction, the work favors perception over representation. Rather than depicting a specific landscape, it offers a contemplative experience where breath, memory and inner resonance unfold through the interaction of matter and light.
